Have you heard the saying that goes something like if you are looking around for the weird one at the table and you can't find them, It's you. Do you think they know this? I didn't think so. I mean who thinks "they" are the unstable ones. I know YOU are, but I'm fine.
What does this have to do with anything? Well on my way to the bank I ran into one of "them".
I smile often, as I was while talking to mr.xxx *. Or while he was verbally threatening me with bodily harm.
him "There are two things I want to do to you right now."
me "Oh yeah, what are they."
him "First I want to break your fingers. Then fold you in half and smash your @#$%ing face into the asphalt. Then I want to have you arrested."
note: technically I think this is three things, but he was on a roll.
me "Arrested?"
him "I hope you don't have anything to this weekend cuz you are gonna be spending it in jail."
me "Arrested."
him "You shouldn't mess with the wrong people. Cuz you messed with the wrong person."
me "How are you going to have me arrested after you beat me up?"
him "Aggravated assault."
me "Aggravated assault?"
him "It's your word against mine."
Let's take a moment here. You should know some background on our pal here. He was about 6 feet or a little over and in his 40's. He drove a white extra cab full size Chevy pickup. He has a cell phone and pager but was not wearing them as he took them off for the coming altercation. I'm sure that his hands, the same hands that are equally familiar around the throttle of a 550 Yamaha dirt bike as they are on the genuine Sea Doo he owns, could have dropped me with one punch. Even though, oddly enough I was not worried. But I'll bet you didn't know our friend was close to finishing his teaching credentials. Heck he even had to pay a teenager to "hack" into his mainframe and fix his computer last week. All this was in preparation to his entry into law enforcement. Who knew? I even know how much cash he has on him for the weekend, you know the weekend that I'm going to be spending behind bars. How was I able to "read" this man so well.
He told me.
Yep I had about a 25 minuet conversation with the man as the sun started to slip down for the evening. Most of the time you can learn a lot just by observing. In this case he just spilled his guts to a guy that not 10 minuets before he was going to "fold in half".
Now the exact cause for this scene was both our faults but I would say I lit the match. When he pulled over to "take care o business" I was soo curious to see what was going to happen that I had to go over to him and find out. When it was over I think I should have given him a bill for the breakthrough he had. We explored why he chose that particular time to confront the bad person and not turn the other cheek, that by his own admission he had done every other time. And why he was so ready to fight. He said he was not there to fight, but a friend of mine who drove by and witnessed the early stages of the event came over to mediate for what he viewed as a very aggressive looking confrontation. It's all in the posture I'm told. I had my hands in my pockets and a smile on my face the whole time the Christian man was talking to us. Oh did I mention he was a really good Christian man with a fish on his truck and everything, he even attended church locally with a bunch of long-hairs. This was because I had asked if my hair made a difference in him wanting to break my fingers. It didn't. We also talked about perception and hidden or unknown reality and how that things arent allways what they seem.
In the end I entered the bank with minuets to spare having had a hearty handshake and slap on the shoulder.
In this case I was not looking around the table for the scary person, he found me.
* having a camera wrist watch is really cool sometimes. actual photo taken during the incident.
